The Director of Press to Governor Simon Bako Lalong, Dr. Makut Simon Macham has said that with the emerging number of graduates of Mass Communication across the country, there was need to resuscitate THE NIGERIA STANDARD newspapers so that they can be accommodated.
Macham made the plea during his familiarization tour of some media outfits in the state, where he used the forum to thank Governor Lalong for finding him worthy to be appointed the Director of Press and Public Affairs.
Our Correspondent reports that the new Director of Press visited Federal Information Centre, State Ministry of Information and Communication, Plateau Publishing Corporation and the Silver Bird Communication as part of his familiarization tour.
He mentioned that although nobody has monopoly of knowledge, he will continue to collaborate with media establishments in the state towards projecting the programmes and policies of the second phase of the rescue mission to the next level.
The Director of Press emphasized on the need for journalists in the state to always seek clarification on issues when in doubt, stressing that such would provide a balance reportage and objectivity.
He decried the sorry state of newspapers on the stable which according to him was the newspaper to be reckoned with in the North and Nigeria.
Macham promised do his best to ensure the resuscitation of the newspaper back to its olden days.
The Interim Administrator of Plateau Publishing Corporation, Mrs. Yankat Wannang said the newspaper organization has qualified staff, but lack operational requirements to compete favourably with some national newspapers.
She said over the years the organization has been producing exercise books aimed at generating revenue to the state coffers apart from the newspaper publication.
Our Correspondent reports that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication, Elder Michael Pam had earlier assured him of good working relationship to portray activities and programs of the state government to the next level when he paid a similar visit to the ministry.
According to him, being the mother ministry, they would assist him to provide accurate information about the government to the people.
On her part, the Head of Federal Information Center Jos, Sandra Taddy said the Ministry over the years has been projecting the programmes, policies and activities of both the federal and state governments, stressing that the ministry has a cordial relationship with the Plateau State Government.
