The appointment of a Taraba indigene, Engr. Saleh Mamman, as Minister for Power, was yesterday described as the best thing that has ever happened to the state and the country as the appointment would facilitate the construction of the abandoned multi billion naira Mambilla Hydro power project.
The said project which is located in Sardauna local government council of the state, according to Tarabans, would received the much needed attention if the people would put aside all form of sentiments and embrace the “good will of the President.”
The state Coordinator, Buhari Support Organization ( BSO) Taraba State, Engr Ahmad Zakari Nguroje, said “the appointment is not for Engr Saleh Mamman alone but for the entire state.”
Ngoroje who observed that “federal government presence has not been visible in the state” said “for us to have this appointment, “we are grateful” adding that the “Mambilla Hydro Power Project will attract the good will of the President.”
Observing that the project “is Paramount to the heart of the President” he was of the view that the Minister is in the position to bring to an end all the obstacles in the host communities and the state at large that have being hindering the project from taking off.
According to him “the minister, being a son of the soil, is in the proper position to interact with the host communities, the two companies assigned with the responsibility of handling the project and the Federal government” adding that ” nobody can coordinate this better than the son of the land.”
Believing that the Minister “will not let Taraba and Nigeria at large down ” he said ” I don’t think the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would do anything negative to truncate the goodwill of Mr. President. ”
Ngoroje then called on the state governor, Darius Ishaku, to “cooperate with the President and the Minister in order to actualize the Mambilla Project dream” and urged the people of the state not to allow tribal, politics and religion sentiments to frustrate works at the site, stating that “we should do everything humanly possible to support the project.”
Admonishing the host communities and the entire people of the Mambilla Plateau to embrace peace as well as giving the much needed helping hands to the companies handling the project, the dream of making the dam a reality, he said would not be achieved if the people failed to make available conducive environments for the contractors.
He pleaded with the people of the area to “accommodate each other by coming together to give all the needed supports to the company to succeed in executing the project which according to him would not only go a long way to create job opportunities for the people , but would as well herald the presence of both foreign and local investors .
Apart from Ngoroje, other Tarabans especially top shots from the various registered political parties who described the appointment as a well deserved appointment” also believed that the much visualized dream of the people of the state have no doubt come to reality with the appointment of the Minister for Power from the state .
They reiterated their determinations to give all the needed helping hands to both the President and the Minister to effectively bring to bear the yearnings and aspirations of the people adding that to achieve this, all hands, must be on deck by eschewing all forms of ethnic and political sentiments.
