GOVERNOR Simon Lalong of Plateau State has tasked professional bodies in the country to rid themselves of quacks and quackery practice.
Lalong who threw the challenge while receiving on a courtesy visit new Executive members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Plateau State chapter led by their Chairman Charles Hoomsuk who described quackery elements in every profession as most unfortunate and said every profession must sit up and fight it in order to project itself properly.
“For unfortunate reasons, we tend to have a lot of 419 elements in most professional bodies now and l thinks it is something that every profession should sit up and fight and project itself properly, the governor emphasized.”
Lalong while congratulating the new officials of the NIPR in the state for their emergence at its Annual General Meeting, challenged them to ensure that they sensitize the people more about NIPR to the society and called on government officials particularly those that have responsibilities to do with public relations so as to perfect their professional capabilities etiquette and competences by being part of the institute.
He assured the NIPR of government support in order to achieve its mandate of improving the image of the state and fishing out quacks among its members.
Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of public Relations, Plateau State chapter, Charles Hoomsuk said as a professional body saddled with the responsibility of regulating and directing the development to PR as a profession in Nigeria reiterated their readiness and commitment of project the image of the state in line with the commitment of peace on the Plateau.
He outlined the activities of the new executive would be embarking on to include organizing training at different levels as well as other programmes that would propel the association to take a leading role in public relations.
Hoomsuk also promised to identify and sanetion quacks within the profession whom he said was one of the major problems bedeviling them adding that PR was being practiced at various organizations even in government by indentified and registered members.
He also explained that they were at Government House to express their gratitude to the governor for his support especially during their council retract in the state on behalf of the Mallam Mukter Sirajo, the National President of the Institute.
