THE manner at which tricycle drivers behave on the road in Jos has become worrisome, some residents of the city have lamented.
An investigation carried out by THE NIGERIA STANDARD in Jos revealed that most of the tricycle drivers, drive roughly without regard to safety rules.
A road traffic officer who does not want his name in print said most of the tricycle drivers, drive carelessly because they just engaged themselves in self employ (driving) without knowing the proper rules of driving, stressing that they find it difficult to control some of them due to the way they misbehave.
Also speaking to a tricycle commuter from Terminus to Angwan Rukuba who gave her name as Rose Peter, said driving was not for irresponsible people because it deals with people lives which is not to play with.
She called on the government to ensure that all tricycle operators must have driving licence to curtail the nonchalant act by unqualified operators.
She lamented that, most of the tricycle operators were under age and they do not value life.
Also speaking, Panmum James a student from the University of Jos who took a tricycle from Terminus to permanent site blamed the attitude of some of the tricycle operators on smoking and illicit drinks among other many others.
He stressed the need for serious action to be taken by the security agencies to address the situation adding that, only responsible people should be allowed to do the business for the good of all citizens.
Our correspondent report that all these spoken to said tricycle operators should abide by the rules and regulations of the road in order to stay alive for the good and benefits of the society.
