Happiness Monday who is a Primary Three pupil of the Baptist Model School, Jos was joined by Joy Ola and Hauwa Abdullahi to clinch the gold medal in the girls’ team event.
Earlier, Joy Ola also won gold in the girls’ singles and paired Hauwa Abdullahi to secure her third gold in girls’ doubles.
Reacting on the outstanding performances of the girls, Chairman Technical Subcommittee of the Games, Dr Emmanuel Igbinosa said the emergence of Happiness Monday and others has shown that the competition is not a waste of time after all.
He assured that the Sports Ministry is noting outstanding youngsters for monitoring and consideration for future international competitions.
He disclosed that National coaches and technical directors in various sports have been advised to pencil down exceptionally talented performers.
As expected, such athletes like Happiness Monday, Joy Ola who were discovered at the Games will form the basis of the federation’s future plans.
Meanwhile, Coach of the Plateau State Scrabble team, Negro Igbinadolor has thanked the parents of his medal winning team for supporting the quest of their children to come out victorious.
Mr. Igbinadolor said he teaches and takes his players through the rudiments of Scrabble after classes.
He appealed to other parents to introduce their kids to sports so as to develop the talents inherent in them.
Meanwhile, Plateau has topped the medals table in Scrabble with three gold medals; while Akwa Ibom took home two gold medal and Lagos State got one.
