In line with the anti- thuggery law, the Niger State Police Command has arrests 62 political thugs for allegedly attacking innocent residents during the just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) party primaries for the forthcoming local government area elections.
While speaking to newsmen in Minna, the State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman stated that the suspects were from five local government areas.
According to him “we arrested 44 suspects from Paikoro Local Government Area, 4 suspects from Rijau Local Government Area, 10 suspects from Tafa Local Government Area, 2 suspects from Katcha Local Government Area, and another 2 suspects from Rafi Local Government Area.
“We also impounded one Toyota vehicle with dangerous weapons, such as machetes, daggers, and knives which we recovered from some of the suspects.”
While assuring that the Command was committed to providing a peaceful atmosphere for the conduct of free, fair and credible LGA elections, the Commissioner warned politicians, especially those seeking elective positions, against sponsoring political violence during and after the local government elections in the state.
He further disclosed that, the suspects would be charged to court for unlawful assembly, disturbance of public peace, being in possession of dangerous weapons and for sponsoring thuggery in accordance with the Niger State Anti-Thuggery law.
Recently, two persons were alleged to have been killed in Shiroro LGA, when the APC conducted its primary elections for aspirants for the positions of chairmen and councilors for the council polls slated for November 30th, 2019 in the state.
