The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has expressed it’s readiness for the Local Government elections scheduled for November this year. No date has been fixed tentatively for the election.
This followed what the party’s stakeholders said was a follow up of the reconciliation of the different factions which led to the dismal performance of the party in the last governorship elections in the state.
The stakeholders claimed that they have since realized their mistakes and appealed to their supporters to close ranks and ensure they sweep the chairmanship and Councillor seats in the state.
They however stressed that they will want to see that the elections were free and fair.
Those who spoke were Alhaji Abdulrahman Adamu, a former Internal Affairs Minister who told stakeholders at a meeting Friday evening at the Lelewal Motel that issues that divided the party were discussed in Abuja the Federal Capital territory.
According to the former Minister, “we have therefore resolved that, we will not allow this to continue”.
According to Abdulrahman therefore, it was agreed to make Alhaji Dahiru Bobbo Chairman of the committee on reconciliation.
“It was also agreed that we should meet all and find out what happened and that it is time to understand each other”, he said.
On his part, one-time chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu Oshomole said APC owns the state adding that, they must win all the local governments in the coming election.
Rigging he said, will not be tolerated because ‘what happened to us in the last election should not happen again’.
Alhaji Dahiru Bobbo Chairman of the reconciliation committee said the party has set a seven-points agenda that will revive the fortunes of the party.
Earlier, the state chairman of the party Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal solicited for forgiveness among each other saying.”As leaders, where we have gone wrong, please pardon us,” he stressed.
It would be recalled that, the APC in the state was thrown into disarray with Dr. Halilu Modi junior brother to President Buhari’s wife leading one faction, Bilal the other with Nuhu Ribadu leading the other.
