Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has applauded the role of Journalists particularly in the area of sensitizing and educating the people in the country.
Lalong who was represented by his deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden stated this at a Colloquium on “Insecurity in Nigeria and Agitation for Restructuring” organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State Council as part of its 2019 Press Week, held at Eliel Event Center, Gold and Base Rayfield Jos, Thursday.
He appreciated the media for the support accorded the ‘Rescue Administration’ in the state and urged journalists who are the mirror of the society to make more effort in setting good agendas for the nation.
He assured Journalists in the state of the governments continued support and good working relationship as partners of progress.
Prof. Tyoden in his personal opinion posited that the issue of restructuring should be looked at nationally, and not just to address parochial interests, adding that the agitation for restructuring as being agitated by some individuals were for different reasons.
He maintained that the antidotes for insecurity and agitation for restructuring were good governance and proper management of the nation’s diversity.
National President of the NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo who was represented by the NUJ Vice President, Zone ‘D’, Chief Wilson Bako congratulated the Plateau State council for organizing the programme and thanked the Plateau State council for the support given him during his election.
He called on the Plateau State Government to look into the problems of its media organsisations by upgrading their facilities and also appreciated the state government for the good working relationship between it and journalists in the state.
Our Correspondent reports that Chairman of the Plateau State Council, Mr. Paul Jatau had earlier in his welcome remarks said that the occasion was an avenue for journalists and other stakeholders in the Nigerian project to rob minds on issues affection the country as it was equally beneficial to the society.
In a vote of thanks, the 2019 Press Week Chairperson, Mrs. Jennifer Yarima appreciated all those that graced the occasion.
