THE Plateau State House of Assembly has approved the recommendation of its adhoc committee on the crisis rocking Kanam Local Government Council and directed the council should pay all the entitlement of the five councilors that were suspended during the crisis within two weeks.
The approval o the recommendation came after the presentation and adoption of the committee’s reports by the House chairman, Hon Naanlong Daniel.
The committee also recommended that the Clerk dully appointed by the House of Assembly service Commission be allowed to assume his duties as the substantive Clerk of the House.
Also in the report the committee from at the issue of polarization that had lingered prior to the local government election last year which it noted was still causing division and disaffection between the executive and the legislative arm of the council.
The House said the chairman of the council should honour the reconciliation agreement by carrying out all legislators along and not a few as it was done before the conflict.
As a sign of reconciliation the House recommended that impeachment of the leader and deputy leader of the council should be reversed due to procedural breach and for the purpose of peace and the suspension of the five councilors be reversed.
Our correspondent reports that Kanam Local Government Council was recently embroiled in conflict when some members of the legislative council impeached the House Leader and the Majority Leader and elected new ones in their place, but that led to the crisis which was petitioned to the Plateau State House of Assembly and it set up an adhoc committee to investigate the matter and report back to it.
