The runner-up to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 16 governorship polls in Kogi state, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim has expressed optimism that the party will win overwhelmingly despite his action challenging the outcome of the primaries in Court.
Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim in a statement signed by his aide, Issa Itopa Lucky and made available to Our Correspondent in Lokoja on Monday, said despite the fact that he is in court challenging the outcome of the last party’s primaries, he is sure of PDP victory.
According to the statement, “Today, Monday, October 7th 2019, we will be in court in continuation of our case in a bid to reclaim our mandate but notwithstanding I will not relent in mobilizing my supporters for the victory of PDP”
He gave an assurance that PDP remains the Party to beat as there is every hope for it to emerge victorious, in spite of our present challenges, which are of course part of every democratic setting, ours not an exception.”
Meanwhile, the matter brought before a Kogi High Court sitting in Lokoja challenging the outcome of the PDP primaries by Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim will be mentioned today with both parties making their submission, through a front loading system, in a bid to accelerate the process since the governorship election is few weeks away.
Following the time constraint, parties made their submissions through written addresses, adopted their submissions, will now await a date by the court for ruling on the matter.
It would be recalled that the PDP primaries ran into a hitch following gunshots during the ballots sorting, with counting concluded afterwards, an action that led to rejection by Alh. Abubakar Ibrahim.
