Plateau State Government says it will pay counterpart funding of one hundred and twenty six million naira to ensure that the three point two million long lasting mosquito nets donated by USAID are distributed to citizens.
Lalong made the promised while inspecting the mosquito nets stored at the Jos International Breweries yesterday.
Governor Simon Lalong who was taken round by the state Commissioner for Health to inspect the long lasting nets urged the ministry to ensure prompt distribution to people starting from rural communities while the mosquito nets are worth three point eight billion Naira.
While reiterating government’s commitment in promoting the health sector, Governor Lalong said the distribution of the nets would be effectively monitored.
He appreciated USAID for the intervention and promised to keep liaising with other donor agencies for the benefit of the state.
The Commissioner for Health Dr. Nimkong Lar said,the long lasting mosquito nets would help in preventing malaria and other diseases associated with mosquito bite, explained that twenty five thousand adhoc staff would be employed for the distribution.
Plateau State Malaria Elimination Programme Manager, Christopher Bewa said after distribution of the nets to various households within the state, it would also be given to every pregnant woman who registered for anti -natal to reduce the risk of malaria
