THE member representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Solomon Maren has joined other well meaning Nigerians in congratulating former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon on his 85th birthday celebration.
Hon. Maren in a strong worded press statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen in Abuja described General Yakubu Gowon as a statesman who contributed immensely to nation building.
According to representative Solomon Maren, Gowon contributed enormously to Nigeria’s unity and development, adding that Nigerians owes Gowon a debt of gratitude for his efforts at resolving ethnic tension that threatened to totally divide the country.
Continuing, Hon. Maren also commended Gowon for propounding the “No Victor No Vanquished policy” after the war to bring national reconciliation.
He noted that Gowon has not looked back since then, and has not relented in his efforts with the task of engendering peace and unity in the land with the “Nigeria pray project.”
It would be recalled that General Gowon served as Head of State of Nigeria from 1966-1975.
