PANKSHIN Local Government Council was agog with athletes on Saturday who stormed the area to compete in the twenty one (21) kilometers athletics championship, organized by ‘bet 9ja’ in collaboration with Plateau State athletics.

The championship which was the second edition witness athletes from the seventeen (17) Local Government council of the state.

In his address after the championship, Hon John Damap, Chairman Pankshin Local Government Council stressed that the tournament has really empowered the young ones.

He opined that if spirited organizations and individuals will copy the good gesture of ‘bet 9ja’ it will go a long way in encouraging the young athletes and it will ginger them to put in their best in their carrier.

“As you all know sports is a unitary factor and it bring peace and development, not only on the Plateau but in the country as a whole, as we are here in Pankshin again for the second edition of this tournament, we want to thank the bet 9ja for honouring us.

“I believe it is because of our peaceful environment that encouraged this organization to consider us and staged the championship here. We also have tourist places that you can visit to see it for yourselves”, he said.

He thanked the organizers for choosing the Local Government to stage the championship, which he said that will indeed empower the youths of the state and assured of his support in the subsequent ones.

Earlier, David Akindunde Olawuyi, Super Agent of bet 9ja emphasised that their organization sponsor the championship in order to give hope, empower the young athletes and brighten their future.

“We have gathered here in the second edition of this tournament and it is a success and we hope for a better championship next year. This year’s tournament is better than the last edition.

He appreciated the chairman of the Local Government Council for rallying around toward the success of the tournament, and commended the athletes for their good conducts before and during the championship.

Also, Timon Gunen, Chairman, Plateau State Athletes Association  expressed delight with the sponsor for identifying with the association.

“I want to appreciate bet 9ja for agreeing to partner with us and by the grace of God we will grow from strength to strength”, he maintained.

Gunen applauded the council’s chairman for his show of love and support to the success of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Gideon Goyet has emerged the champion of the elite male category to went away home with one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000) and Iliya Pam won the second position prize, while Jigak Monday got the third place.

Also, in the elite female category, Hudung Stephen Gyang clinched the first prize to also smile home with the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira, Nanlop Danladi emerged in the second position, while Blessing Shabor clinched the third position.

In the non elite female category, Maryam Ezikiel beat many contenders to book the first prize, while Jemimah Aminu got the second place and Krisimwa Stephen won the third position, Kwat Jacob emerged the champion of the non elite male category to relinquish the second and third place to Dakom Gayus and Jan Danjuma.
