THE official Headquarters of the Independent National Commission, Sokoto has been raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
In an interview, the Commandant of EFCC, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi while confirming the exercise said most of the senior officers of INEC were presently in its custody even as some INEC officers when approached by our correspondent also confirmed the incidence.
One of the INEC staff who did not want to be quoted said the EFCC team raided the INEC, Sokoto Headquarters last Tuesday morning.
He also stated that the EFCC team whisked away some INEC senior officers even as they took away very vital documents from the officers offices.
Our Correspondent also report that the raiding and arrest of the senior officers followed some irregularities connected to some adhoc staff of the INEC payment during the general elections in the country.
He said some of the adhoc staffers were shot paid even as some of them started receiving bank alert Tuesday/Monday being notice of payment after several months that they rendered services to INEC.
SUNDAY STANDARD reports that EFCC Zonal Head promised to disclose the reason behind the raiding and the arrest to journalists as soon as possible.
