Matthew 6:31 & 32 says Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. Here Jesus is referring to the material things of life. These things are necessary and God knows that they are. However, in God’s mind, it is not just the material things of life that matter but whatever it is that will improve the quality of your life, those he classifies as essential and they are not an afterthought with him

The scripture tells us that after these things the Gentiles seek. Gentiles are a people who do not know God and are without covenant.  Yet, many believers who know God and have a covenant with God are living like those who do not know him. These things as important as they are, are not supposed to be the things that drive our lives. The people who are not in covenant with God can go to the extent of killing for these things. They can kill someone just to get ahead. It is their life. They cannot define themselves outside of these things but that is not the definition of the Christian’s life.

A brand new car is good; brand new clothes are good but it is not the definition of your life. Answered prayers for all these things are good but that is not the definition of your life. In Matthew 6:31-32, Jesus is trying to get us back to a sense of value. We need to get this to enter into God’s best.  If we do not get our value system back in order, then we will never get our dominion back. We are not supposed to be struggling to make our lives produce. A productive and successful life is our birthright.

Trying to make our lives produce in our power is foolishness for the believer. We must hook up to the grace of God. As people in covenant, we cannot live like the people of the world; like these things are everything to us. God’s prosperity has an inbuilt balance to it. God’s prosperity increases as you grow and develop spiritually. God’s prosperity does not live you a spiritual dwarf. It is as your soul prospers. So as we become billionaires, we become more spiritual. More of the fruit of the spirit should be evident in our lives as we grow and increase in the blessings of God.

As we grow in the blessing, we ought to lose our attachment to things. That is spiritual power. Growing in the understanding that we are stewards of the manifold grace of God and these things do not bind us. Also remember that the blessings of God should never become the excuse you have not to continue to serve him. Why more blessings have not come to many of us is because we are not large enough in heart to handle it.

God is concerned about our prosperity. He is a loving Father who will not give you anything that would destroy you. Great prosperity is coming but you must be ready to handle it. God is raising people that will master money and material possessions. The gentiles pursue these things and their lives are defined by them but you are not like that. Your heavenly father knows you have needs in your life. He knows they are important. If it touches you, it touches God. Even at the point that you cry out to him, he already knows and his word gives us the answer.

Now Matthew 6:31&32 is not only talking about the things we need to function in comfort in this life, but also the things that touch our lives which include our peace and preservation. Jesus in these verses is saying, the answer is not in the way the people of the world think; these are those with little understand.

God has a blessing with your name on it. Tailor made to fit you and he is showing you how to get it. This is the golden or the master key to getting all your needs met. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you. What does “all these things” represent to you? What are your deficiencies in life and where is your soul aching?  God is giving you the answer. This is the realm where all your needs, wants and desires are satisfied. God has a lot at stake in your case because he needs vessels that will serve him without distraction.

Unmet needs and legitimate desires that are not satisfied are distractions but God does not fool around with words: He said ALL. Even the things that seem insignificant in your eyes are important to God and he will not withhold from you. God’s kingdom represents his economy and that economy is not tied to money and material things alone. God’s economy satisfies every human desire; emotional needs, heals wounds and self-esteem issues that exist because of experiences, etc.

The realm of ‘ALL THESE THINGS’ is the key to resolving the issues of your life. Men cannot resolve all things but God can. That is the meaning of restoration: God putting back everything that has been removed from your life. He wants to put you back together emotionally, in your health, finance and in every other way. He wants you to maintain a sense of wholeness and there is a key for that. Seek first the kingdom. We must identify ourselves as his own by what we earnestly pursue or seek. The driving force of our lives must distinguish us in these last days. This is God’s passport to all things.

Joshua 1:8 tells us that this book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. No matter how successful the people without covenant are, they can never enjoy good success.

Good success is the realm of all things. Some have money but their marriage is hell. Some have a semblance of outward success in their lives but their children are giving them hell. They do not know how to connect them to the power of God. But good success is when the power of God is regulating everything in your life. Even when everything has not yet come to a full state of equilibrium, you know how to release the power of God and get it to work in that situation. That is good success. True prosperity is the ability to harness the power of God to meet all the need of mankind. There is a realm called all. Psalms 1:3 says he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. You can have it all but you cannot get it the way the world gets it. You cannot make up your own way of serving God and do it. The word is there for you.

What does the word first imply? Where a first exists, there will be a second and it continues to infinity. If the bible says to seek first the kingdom, it means there is room for seeking other things.  Some people think seeking the kingdom first means to be so heavenly conscious and be no good on the earth but the bible did not say seek only the kingdom of God. It said, seek ye first the kingdom; talking about order, rank and priority. This means that if you get this one right, then your search for all the others will be right.

Your pursuit of God’s kingdom will give you the right perspective of the pursuit of all other things. In other words, when you seek the kingdom of God first, it will teach you how to seek other things right.

We have talked about the kingdom being God’s economy and his dominion. However, in this context, we will talk about his kingdom being his way of doing things. God does not operate anyhow. He has his way of doing things and that is why He gave us his word. The scripture says in Psalm 119:105 thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The word shines its light into our lives and we understand exactly how God wants us to go about the business of living.

God designed life and he knows how best to enjoy it. Your primary priority in life is to research and to study how God operates so you can do things God’s way. If you do not make knowing how he operates your primary pursuit, then you will not do every other thing right. You might get the house built, but you will not have God’s approval on it. The bible tells us except he builds the house, the labourer builds in vain. You see people struggle through things in life because they do not seek first how God does it. When that is not in place, it will corrupt how you do everything else. Praise God for his wisdom.
