THE Court of Appeal sitting in Jos, has trashed out the petition of Hon. Johnbull Shekarau, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the victory of Hon. Alphonsus Longap Komsol, of All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Shendam/Quan-Pan/Mikang Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
This, according to the Appellate Court, was due to the inability of the appellant to back his argument with facts in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act which the Court found it difficult to rely on, describing it as impudent case that lacks merit.
Speaking shortly after his victory, Hon. Komsol, said, “I want to call my younger brother, Hon. Shekarau to come and join hands with me so that we work together. I want to get more experience from him. He has the experience whether I like it or not, he has been there before me.
“So, I want to thank God for seeing me throughout the election, the lower court and now the Appellate Court. I want to thank the secretary of the party who has been with me all through as a father. I want to also thank our father, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Dr. Simon Bako Lalong, for standing by us. He is truly a father and we will continue to work with him”, he promised.
Komsol, thanked the people of his constituency for the support and promised to make them proud by giving them what they voted him to do for them by ensuring that, the flight would not be thwarted , “because I am their own, a grassroots man”.
On his part, the state secretary of the APC, Hon. Bashi Musa Sati, said, “the programmes of the party are simply and rooted in the reality of people’s existence and I am very happy that Plateau people are beginning to understand and appreciate the programmes of our party. For example, the Honourable has been able to sponsor bills for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, and three different federal institutions in his constituency.
“The only thing we can say as a party is that, our members will stand out ahead of all other members, that, I can assure you, because they are well trained, well groomed. We have trained him and he has his capacity and I know he has and I know what he is going to do. So, Plateau people, especially those his constituency should expect great things to happen”, he assured.
Also, the Appeal Court has upheld the victory of Hon. Haruna Mai-Tala, of the APC, representing Jos-North/Bassa Constituency in the National Assembly which was petitioned by Hon. Jonathan Dabo of the PDP after a prudent screening by the appellate court throwing it for lack merit.
