As part of effort to curtail unemployment in the country, the Federal Government through National Directorate of Employment has embarked on training of 50 unemployed youths in Niger State on poultry farming.
Niger State Coordinator, NDE, Alhaji Abdulmalik Abubakar Liman made the disclosure at the orientation ceremony for 2019 batch of the beneficiaries in Minna, Niger State.
He added that the training was to boost the total production of poultry in the country, and to provide job opportunity to the teeming unemployed youths in the country.
Liman who said the 50 youths cut across graduates and undergraduates are beneficiaries of the first phase, adding that “in Poultry business, the market is there for you except you are not ready”.
According to him, 200 day old birds are to be given to the trainees to handle as practical for eight weeks of maturity to ascertain their level of understanding of how to handle birds.
Speaking on the high prices of day old chicks in the country this year, Liman said most poultry farmers are taking advantage of the closure of border to sale more than ever before, since there are no importation of frozen chicken again.
He said N2,000 will be given to each trainee every month for transportation and other logistics.
The Director thanked Niger State government for providing the enabling environment for smooth running of the programme.
Responding, the beneficiaries who took turns to thank the organizers, said they are optimistic that the training will yield positive result and create employment opportunity to them.
