Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that Federal Government has reiterated its commitment in providing access to sanitation and hygiene towards upgrading the living standard of Nigerians and to meet up with the target of eradicating open defecation by the year 2025.
The Vice President said this Tuesday at the national launch and flag-off of Clean Nigeria: Use the toilet campaign held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
He said Federal Government would pay significant attention to provide access to 14 local government areas out of the 774 local government areas of the country.
Vice President Osinbajo while commending states that have taken specific action towards ending the open defecation, expressed concern on the attitude of the people on open defecation by indulging in that, and noted that it has affected the economic and social well-being of humans.
The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu whose Ministry organized the launching called for attitudinal change amogst Nigeria’s citizens on open defecation for safe water and sanitation.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Northern Governor’s Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, who spoke for Nigeria Governor’s Forum, thanked the Federal Government for committing funds in tackling open defecation and pledged the commitment and willingness of the governors to co-operate and collaborate in ending open defecation in the country.
Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Ibikunle Abiodun who represented wife of the President Aisha Buhari said, the wives of Nigerian Governor’s were willing to corporate and end the menace cause by open defecation by year 2025 as targeted.
Good will message came from representative of the Nigerian International partners while Little Debra Daniel unveiled signed commitment to end open defecation in Nigeria.
