PLATEAU State Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden has urged Christians to remain focused and keep their trust in God despite the security challenges and the state of instability around the world.
The Deputy Governor who gave the encouragement at the Annual Harvest and Thanksgiving service of the COCIN Headquarters Church, Jos, Sunday called on Christians to go on their knees and pray to God for divine intervention in all circumstances.
Tyoden who was Special Guest at the thanksgiving service, said the state of instability and political crises around the world especially in Bolivia which led to the resignation of President Evo Morales and many other developments across the globe needed prayers.
He expressed concern on the rampant cases of kidnapping and the rate of insecurity in the country describing it as the height of man inhumanity to man.
This year’s Harvest and thanksgiving service with the theme; “Pleasing God through thanksgiving service”, is held in November of every year to reflect on what God has done to members and the church as a whole and to also come before him with their substances and foodstuff as a mark of appreciation to God.
The Deputy Governor also encouraged them to be thankful to God in whatever situation they found themselves and said no one would say God has not blessed him in one way or the other.
President, Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Dachollom Datiri in a pastoral greeting, stressed the importance of thanksgiving in the life of a Christian reminding them of God unfailing love.
Datiri noted that every believer in Christ has one reason or the other to give thanks to God adding that within the year many received healings and break through in life which he said were enough to appreciate God.
In self assessment sermon, Rev. Festus Dashem and COCIN Deputy Director of Personnel described thanksgiving and praise as instruments of worship.
Dashem who took his reading from Psalms 51 verse 23, said Christians have fell short of the biblical injunction when it comes to thanksgiving noting that apart from salvation as benefits of thanksgiving, God could reveal himself more and more to those who obey this command.
He lamented that as a result of greed and stinginess, many Christians have denied themselves of some comfort let alone to give to others that lack adding that thanksgiving was a command from God and not a matter of choice.
Hight points of the occasion were testimonies by members of the church for what God has done in their lives as well as presentation of cash items and food stuff.
