Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has presented a budget size of One Hundred and Seventy Two billion, Five Hundred and Ninety Six million, Three Hundred and Seventeen Thousand, and Five Hundred and Seventy Seven naira (N172, 596, 317, 577) only for the 2020 fiscal year to the Plateau State House of Assembly.

THE NIGERIA STANDARD reports that the Governor made the presentation yesterday at the floor of house christened,”Budget of Rescue and Infrastructural Consolidation” which showed an increase of Nineteen Billion, Fifty Nine Million, One Hundred and Twenty Seven Thousand, Five Hundred and Eight naira representing 12.41% on the 2019 budget estimate.

In order to finance the budget and to increase the internally generated revenue,IGR,the Governor revealed that the government has employed the services of a reputable revenue expert to facilitate the maximization of internally generated revenue accruable to the state, hoping it would accelerate significant revenue increase which before now had witnessed an increase from an average of eight hundred million naira to slightly over 1.1 billion naira per month.

Governor Lalong further said, the recurrent revenue in the budget is 17,211,673.00 billion naira only which consists of the following internally generated revenue 21,211,673,723.00 billion naira with statutory revenue allocation of 46,000,000,000.00 billion naira and re-imbursement of revenue for the federal roads constructed by the state government totaling 2,500,000,000.00 billion naira.

Others he said were NNPC, Petroleum Profit Tax, PPT, Exchange Gains Rate etc, amounting to 1,500,000,000.00 billion naira.

The Governor said Capital Receipts consists of Value Added Tax(VAT) of 18,000,000,000.00 billion naira,  while Draw Downs from donor projects stood at 14,744,850,320.00 billion naira with External Loans f 12,000,000,000.00 billion naira and General Investment of 9,000,000,000.00 billion naira including General Domestic grants of 4,635,564.00 billion naira and Domestic Loans of 42,903,249,970.00 billion naira.

According to him, the sectoral allocation of the budget, Administrative sector has 11,646,475,000.00 billion naira, Economic Sector, 44,094,550,000.00billion naira with Law/Justice sector having 600,620,000.00 representing 59.23% of capital estimate with social sector having 18,449,619,677.00 billion naira.

In a similar development, the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly Hon Abok Ayuba said, the House would take oversight functions next year seriously to ensure effective implementation of the 2010 budget when passed into law.

The Speaker stated this in a speech during the presentation of the 2020 Appropriation Bill to the House by the Plateau State Governor Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong at the chamber of the Assembly.

He warned that the House would not hesitate to call for sanction of any public officer who fails to meet his or her constitutional obligation in the implementation of the budget.

He assured the Governor of the immediate commencement of the budget defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state to ensure the bill is passed into law for his assent and implementation.

According to Rt. Hon Abok, “the 9th State Assembly will be glad if you present the 2021 Appropriation bill to us latest by September, 2020 to enable us scrutinize and pass same latest December 2020”.

He assured the governor of the willingness and commitment of the Principal Officers and Honourable Members of the 9th Assembly to support and partner with his administration to achieve the objectives and target of building a peaceful state.
