Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi on Wednesday 27 November 2019 handed over 983 repented Boko Haram terrorists to the Borno State government.
The event which took place at Giwa Barracks was graced by top security and government functionaries including the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.
Presenting the de-radicalised suspected Boko Haram members, Gen. Adeniyi, said the event marked the defeat of insurgency and a new dawn of peace for the good people of Borno State adding that, the 983 repented extremists were made up of 978 male and 5 females.
He used the occasion to appeal to the state governor to come up with an empowerment and re-integration programme for the released terrorists and equally called on any terrorist willing to surrender to come up as he/she will be well received. “Do not waste your future, embrace a peaceful and meaningful life.”
Responding, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Military and other security agencies, stressing that Borno State will remain forever grateful to them and paid glowing tributes to gallant soldiers who lost their lives while defending the country.
The occasion which took place at Giwa Barracks had in attendance top security officers and state government officials among many others.
