Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State lost his polling unit and his Kontagora Central Ward to the opposition political party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the just concluded local government election.
The election which held on Saturday 30th November, 2019. In the 25 local government Areas of the state results indicated that Hon. Mallami Abdullahi of the PDP was declared winner of Central Ward where the governor came from.
The Zonal Vice (Zone B) Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Yahaya Ability told our reporter that his party members defended their votes jealously to ensure their vote count hence the victory at the polls.
He added that, this is preparatory to 2023 general election “ we must do every thing humanly possible within armpit of the law to ensure our votes count comes 2023 not only in Kontagora but the whole state. Let everybody’s work speaks for him”.
Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress APC has won twenty two chairmanship position leaving Peoples Democratic Party PDP with one local government as while two local government still pending.
Announcing the results at Niger State Independent Electoral Commission NSIEC, by the Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Baba who said that nine political parties participated in the just concluded local government elections.
He further disclosed that, 85 candidates participated in the chairmanship while 661 councillorship candidates also participated all in the 25 local government areas of the state.
Baba also said that Mashegu and Tara local governments were still pending while six wards were declared inconclusive.
He however appreciated the peaceful conduct of the people throughout the exercise most especially security agencies and the media for ensuring the violent free polls.
