The Plateau State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was this morning thrown into a serious confusion , when some aggrieved members of the party who are alleged to be the supporters of Hon. Chris Hassan’s faction of the party stormed the secretariat as early as 6am following the issuance of an official letter by the national secretariat of the party to Hon. Amos Gombi Goyol to lead the party in the state as Acting Chairman following last week’s resignation of Hon. Damishi Sango as the state chairman of the party.
Our Correspondent reports that Hon. Goyol before the resignation of Hon. Damishi Sango last week was the deputy chairman of the party in the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after the incident at the Secretariat in Jos, the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar, described the incident as a broad daylight coup, null and condemnable in its entirety saying, “as we all are aware, issues that were surrounding our misunderstanding in our party were brought to a closure by the National Working Committee.
“The resolutions which were read to you by our respected state Chairman, Hon. Damishi Sango, and the resolutions were very clear that the allegations purported to be written by 16 EXCO Members of the party were found to be false and misleading, hence they were asked to withdraw all the allegations which they did.
“The next was that, the State Chairman on his own resigned, since there were issues within the party which he honourably did and handed over to his deputy as directed by the NWC. Today we just woke up this morning and heard that some people came to this Secretariat to hold SEC Meeting. I want to say categorically that I am a member of SEC and nobody has invited me for SEC meeting”, he narrated.
According to Go’ar, “This goes to show that some people have an agenda to destroy the party which some of us have toiled day and night to strengthen, we would not allow it to fall in our hands or allow some people to destroy it and therefore, I want to say without mincing words that, the so called meeting of this SEC will not hold water, because the Acting Chairman has not directed for any meeting to be held today and should be regarded as null and void”.
The former Speaker expressed shock that this was happening for the first time in the history of the party and would investigate the incident, adding that whoever was responsible would be dealt with according to the Constitution of the party. He called on genuine party members to disregard what happened today and await directive from the Acting State Chairman for further instructions.
THE NIGERIA STANDARD reports that an eyewitness who would not want his name in print said some party faithful, allegedly led by the Senator representing Plateau North, Sen. ID Gyang stormed the premises of the secretariat as early as 6am in the morning in the guise of SEC meeting and later became violent, saying, “I saw some workers at the party office being manhandled and attacked by some security operatives attached to the Senator who wounded the Personal Assistant to Hon. Goyol”.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach Senator ID Gyang by our Correspondent for his own side of the story proved abortive as he was not picking his call.
