The Plateau State Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development has outlined activities marking the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, starting with an Emblem Appeal Fund launch by Governor Simon Bako Lalong, on 23rd December, 2019.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. (Mrs) Rebecca Adar Sambo, read out the lineup of activities on Friday, at a press briefing marking the celebration in her office at the JD Gomwalk Secretariat Jos, the State Capital.

The Commissioner, said, “ permit me to remind you that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day  is marked annually in Nigeria on the 15th in appreciation of the sacrifices of our veterans in the First and Second World Wars, Nigerian Civil War, Peace Support Operations around the World and Internal Security Operations.

“The Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration is also held to support the legionnaires and the families of deceased as well as indigent and incapacitated veterans. It is my privilege to at this juncture intimate you on the activities lined up to observe the Day in Plateau State as follows;

“Monday 20th December, 2019-Emblem Appeal Fund launch by the Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong; Friday 10th January, 2020-Juma’at Prayer at the Jos Central Mosque; Sunday 13th January, 2020-Interdenomitional Church Service, venue to be announced soon; and the grand finale on 15th January, 2020-Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Cenotaph, JD Gomwalk Secretariat Round-About Jos, respectively”, she listed.

Sambo, however, appealed to all media to help in enlightening the public on the event and wished the Legion and Nigerians a happy 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration calling on the people of Plateau State to come out enmasse to give the needed support to the families of the fallen heroes.
