Afo community in Nasarawa State have been tasked on the need to unite and promote the virtues of peaceful co-existence harmony with a view to enhance their socio-economic activities and prosperity.
The Emir of Nasarawa Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibrin gave the task while speaking as chairman of the occasion at the 2nd merit award of illustrations sons of Afo sons and daughters organized by the Afo Community Development forum in Keffi at the new Keffi Hotel during the weekend.
The Emir who noted with satisfaction that the area is blessed with abundant potentialities especially in the areas of agriculture, manpower and hospitality, stressed that need for then to unite and come up with the ways and means of exploiting such potentialities especially in the areas of creating jobs and wealth to the able bodied youths to enable the contribute meaningfully to the development of the society.
He specifically stressed the need for the illustrious sons and daughters of the Afo community to help in creating means by which the peasant farmers in the land would be able to access major farming inputs especially tractors as well as help to tackle the major security challenges bedeviling the people of the area so as to enhance the socio-economic future of the area.
On education, the paramount rulers stressed the need for them to always make sure that the invest in the educational needs of their children as it is the best legacy they would bequeath unto them.
Also in his speech, Senator Abdullahi Adamu (Turakin Keffi) stressed the need for the Afo communities to embrace education as the best means of enhancing their fortunes and security of their future noting that since even before the creation of any living being by God he stated that “let there be light and there was light” which he explained that such light means education as such it should never be taken with levity by anybody due to its significance to all.
Senator Adamu who is the pioneer Governor of the state attributed all his success in life to education he acquired, urged parents to always ensure that they give special attention to the education and good moral upbringing of their children as a mark of necessity.
He then stressed the need for them to maintain their good qualities of peaceful co-existence, unity hospitality and accommodation with a view to enhance their socio-economic activities adding that they should also embrace all other communities with a view to promoted togetherness.
In his keynote address the chief host and the Emir of Keffi Alhaji Shehu Chindo Yamusa III expressed his delight with the remarkable contributions of and peaceful co-existence of the Afo communities in Keffi Local government area and tasked them to continue with such meaningful attributes.
The Emir who spoke through the Dan-Majen-Keffi Alhaji Ahmadu Sarki assured that the Keffi Emirate council would continue to create an enabling environment for the promotion of peaceful co-existence, unity, harmony and prosperity for the betterment of all and sundry.
Earlier in his welcome address the chairman planning committee of the ceremony Mr. Joel Olugbo stated that the emergence of the awardees from the Afo illustration sons and daughters at different locations and difference areas of endeavours is a right step in the right direction and this is in consideration of their acknowledge virtues of justice, equity, modesty, unity, cooperation and above all contribution to humanity in all aspects of human existence.
While congratulating all the awardees for the recognition he charged them continues to demonstrate commitment in their continued effort to add value and bring smiles on the faces of the Afo community and beyond; bearing in mind that to whom much is given much is equally expected.
He them expressed his gratitude to the Keffi Emirate council for finding some of the Afo sons worthy for Traditional titles, such as Turakin Keffi, Jarman Keffi just to mention but a few and also commended the Osu Ajiri, Osu Agwada and Senator Abdullahi Adamu the Adaweji of Afo nation and Turakin Keffi for their fatherly roles.
Also in his vote of thanks the Madakin Afo in Keffi Alhaji Muhammadu Baba Shehu congratulated the awardee for adding more fathers to their crown saying that is their convictions that this would afford them another opportunity to redouble their efforts in serving humanity in their various areas of endeavours with a view to adding values to people’ lives.
