Member of the National Youths Corp Service (NYSC) are to enjoy the payment of the new National Minimum wage package as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in April this year.
The Director General of the NYSC scheme Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed to Nasarawa state at the Magaji Dan Yanusa NYSC permanent Orientation camp in Keffi during the week.
According to him, with the approval by President members of the NYSC would also benefit from it to enable perform their duties effectively in line with the ideals of the scheme.
He however use the occasion to cautioned the corps members against unnecessary travels adding that even if they have to travel they should seek for permission from the appropriate quarters while those that would travel outside the country must seek for permission from the Director General who is the only approving officer.
Earlier the Nasarawa state’s Director of the NYSC Mrs. Ramatu Sanda stated that Corps members have been carefully posted to all the critical sector like Education, Health and Agriculture after being adequately prepared for the purpose of impacting on their various host communities and expressed the optimizing that they would contribute their quota to the growth and development of the Nasarawa State.
She therefore urged them to continue to be focused patriotic and committed to the ideals of the NYSC assuring that as a tradition, those who excel will be adequately rewarded while those who engage themselves in any act inimical to the ideal of the NYSC shall be sanctioned in line with the provision of the NYSC Bye-Laws.
Sanda then encouraged them to accept their posting in good faith and integrate fast and freely with members of their host communities so that they can identify and appreciate their challenges and stated that it is her prayer that you will leave you host communities better than you will meet them adding that they should take advantage of the post-camp skills acquisition training to gain mastery of their chosen skills in such a way that they would go out there and become entrepreneurs and employers of labour and not remain as job seekers.
While expressing her gratitude to the Nasarawa State for the support to the NYSC Sanda also thanked their collaborating agencies-the Army, Police, NSCDE, Man ‘O’ War, Red Cross, DSS, NDLEA, their consultants from the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi and every other organizations and individuals who have assisted them whatever ways to achieve a hitch-free orientation course.
In his speech Limemor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State re-assured the determinations of the State government to continue to support the NYSC Scheme to succeed in the state in view of its significance to national integration, unity and development.
The Governor who was represented by his deputy Dr. Emmanuel Akabi He however urged the corps members to accept their postings in good faith and be prepared to serve the communities they were posted to diligently.
