The member representing Pankshin-Kanke-Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi is on the threshold of happy realization. He told JIDAUNA YANUNG in his National Assembly office that some years back, the area had wallowed in the labyrinths of monumental neglect. It may not be out of place to say that the dream which informed the election of Hon. Gadgdi as representative of the constituency has turned out to be a reality as he is now putting the area on the pedestal of development as against what was obtained in the past. The lawmaker said the people of the constituency can attest to the fact that they have now been experiencing a revolution through his representation. Here are excerpts of the interview:

You have served your people in the state House of Assembly and now you are serving them at the national level, how is the journey so far?

The journey has been so nice, nice in the sense that, a lot of lessons have been learnt, so as a result of that, if you find yourself in any situation and you have the privilege to learn new things then you should do it well. So, to me the lessons are unprecedented.

If further exposed our political understanding and the task is enormous as it is quite challenging. But we thank God for giving us the opportunity and wisdom to handle it in the best way we can and we well continue to ask God to forgive us when we got wrong.

Serving at the national level is always very challengeable compare to the state level. So what would you say are some of challenges you are facing since assumption of office?

Aside managing people with diverse of different ethnic  nationality, Kanke and Kanam, religious composition, being from a minority religion among the three local government and having been chosen by these people to lead them. One should be conscious of his or her action where if l am a Christian it will not be difficult for me to take certain decisions, so to manage that diversity, is something that has been my major problem, aside of that looking at the problems of people of Pankshin, Kanke been one of the backward constituency in Nigeria.

Over the years, my predecessors have tried their best but looking at the location of the constituency, the infrastructural needs of the people, their educational background, the health needs, water among others is another problem that has always disturbed me. And I find it very difficult to sleep when I think about it. I shall need to remedy them from all these needs.

Lastly the expectations of the people of my constituency have always been my challenge because to whom much is given, much is also expected, so to keep te tempo is another great challenge.

Just as you said, that your constituency is made up of people with different cultural, religious backgrounds among others, how would you give a sense of belonging to them all?

Yes, if you have been monitoring my events, activities and representations you should understand I am carrying everybody along in the constituency. In fact, my door is widely open to everybody in the constituency. So my commitment has already spoken for me, in this regard, you as a journalist can carry out your personal investigations on this and you will be able to know the exact truth.

Can you give us a highlight of your achievements in the National Assembly since you assumed office?

I don’t want to start naming them now because action they say speaks louder than the voice.

On Monday December 23, 2019 by God grace, I started the distribution of two trailer load of rice worth about N21 million, 27 cows, distribution of appointment letters from different agencies and departments of government to beneficiaries among other things, I have a lot of packages for my people which I don’t want to start mentioning them now. But I want to assure you that my people are my topmost priority whatever I will do in the National Assembly, the grand final of my empowerment and other goodies will be done in April or June where I will also make my one year in office.

As we usher in the new year, what is your take for the people of your constituency and Nigerians in general?

Yes the year 2019 has just ended and this is 2020, so I want the people of my constituency to remain united and continue to give me the necessary support, so that together we can move the constituency forward. Similarly, I also urged Nigerians to remain patience and support the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari. I also wish Nigerians happy New Year and God bless each and every one.
