Borno State Government has commenced distribution of handsets to all the GSM phone dealers,recently affected by fire disaster that engulfed their business premises at Joggol GSM Market at post office Maiduguri,to reduce the level of hardship being faced by victims of the inferno,as they relocate to a new site at BULLUMKUTU ward in the Metropolis.

Deputy Governor of BORNO state,UmarUsmanKadafur,while flagging off the distribution exercise,urged the beneficiaries to remain calmn and orderly, assuring them that the distribution of the handsets would be done in phase through their branch chairmen and that all of them would benefit.

The deputy governor,who handed over two handsets to each beneficiary,informed them, that government has cleared another piece of land behind the new site for onward allocation to those who could not benefit from allocations earlier made.

The gesture, according to the  Deputy Governor,was carried out under the auspices of Poverty Alleviation programme and urged those who are yet to move to the new site, to do so as soon as possible and be law abiding by channelling all their problems through their leaders.

All the beneficiaries who spoke at the occasion were full of praises  to Governor Babagana UMARA ZULUM and his Deputy for providing them with  the necessary environment and facilities to operate their businesses successfully.

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of 1,000 unit of houses to establish a Resettlement City in Monguno town to carter for the over 89,000 Internally displaced persons, IDP, from the northern part of the state.

The estate which is specifically designed to relocate IDPs from Marte, Abadam, Kukawa, Guzamala, Monguno and Nganzai LGAs  will cost the state government a whooping N5bn and scheduled to be completed within 6months.

Commissioner, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, RRR, Engineer Mustapha Gubio, said the housing estate is purposely to relocate the 89,000 IDPs presently occupying schools and other government premises in Monguno town to enable the schools resume normal  activities after long period of non activities.

According to him, the estate will comprise of schools, hospital, boreholes, police station, fire service station, and housing management office.

Other facilities are, a market,  CJTF and vigilante hunters office,  sports center, roads and drainages, electricity, water management office,  PHCN office, shopping complexes, motor park and , recreational center for their comfort.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Education, Hon. Bello Ayuba,   said the Islamic School will fast track and expand Arabic and Islamic knowledge as Islamic studies in the area have great preference and priority, but, however, lamented  the closure of Arabic and Islamic schools in the area which had caused a serious set back as this will  give the students ample opportunity to acquire Arabic and Islamic knowledge by way of addressing illiteracy.

In a separate development N200m cash and over 50 trucks of  food  and non good items have been distributed to over 80,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge at the 17  camps and host community in Monguno.

Flagging off the distribution exercise in Monguno, Tuesday, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, said the exercise became imperative for government to assist the IDPs having been bared by the military from going to their farmlands,as a result of insurgency, thereby exposing them  to food scarcity for several years now.

He distributed about N5000 cash to over 50,000 female IDPs estimated to a total of  N200m apart from food and non food items to communities from Kukawa, Marte, Guzamala, Nganzai and Monguno as well as host communities in Monguno town.

Hear him” We have to come to your aid to assist you, support you with the little we have to alleviate your sufferings before we resettle you back in your ancestral homes.

“We will continue to assist you, renovate all your  houses, infrastructures  and even construct new 1000 houses , a new befitting  general hospital, vocational training center, for about 10,000 unemployed youths.

“We will also build a higher Islamic school for you as well as open the  day  secondary school for your children among other projects.”, Zulum said.

According to him, the projects will all be constructed within a period of 3-6 months.

“We are going  to empower  the youths and women  to become self reliant and employers of labour. Therefore, I urge you to continue to pray for peace and stability of the state, be patient and prayerful for the Insurgency to come to an end” Zulum added.
