THE first piece of information on the pornographic videos involving local Jos girls and women was a warning post on the facebook wall of Lukeman Bello of the Unity FM. It was then followed by others who had copied from the same source and copiously shared to serve as warning to many more. One is not sure how that had served as warning to those who read it; as for me, I knew something was about to hit us. And it did.

Indeed it was just a matter of hours than the whole social media space was over taken by real videos of what he had warned on started to manifest. Those who got it were quick to share it, and before long they had ‘identified some of the actresses in the highly sexually explicit videos, to be their girlfriends, sisters, daughters, friends, neighbours or mere acquaintances’. It was such a horrifying storm, none that you could wish an enemy.

As reported by this title, the news of the sex videos had started circulating late last year and got to its tipping point in the new year even as residents were falling over one another ’circulating the videos online via social media channels and on phones. Sadly, the news had become a subject of discussion in beer parlours, public places, homes and even on radio stations in the city as the hottest and trending item.

The videos were being produced by a business syndicate under the name ‘Compromise Agents’ who intend to benefit from the trade by luring young ladies with money for as meagerly as N30,000, while the actresses involved get a percentage from referrals.

In one of the said videos, a girl was seen introducing herself before the camera and a conversation was holding between her and someone behind the camera. He asked of her name, nationality, if she had a boyfriend, why she chose to act in the video. In her response, she introduced herself as Lizzy, a Nigerian with a boyfriend and that she was doing it for the money that would be paid her.

Then the man promises that a referral (that is if she could refer another lady to him for an acting role), N100,000 would be paid of which she would get a percentage from it, of which she obliged. And then the main act started before the camera while the face of the man in the act was blurred to hide his identity.

Watching the videos, which were hard to be allowed to watch on someone’s phone, meant so much to me; and by extension those who may read this material. First, it was not watching the video that was important; I needed to know if they were under duress to get into the act.

It does appear that for all intent and purposes, the business has a long history, whose agents didn’t think they were going to be exposed. To feed on the gullibility of the ‘innocent’ girls had enough distinctive feeling to get back at their predators. Now that the act has been exposed, nothing stops us from examining the feelings of people concerning the episode.

I am not aware of the number of girls that have fallen prey to the actions of the producers of the videos. But we may be right to say that the girls are many and may have ‘gone into the world’ to recruit more into the fold. We may not know, but there may be reasons to conclude on how they succeeded in luring some women into the trade.

However, if the package was marketed and the pecuniary palliatives were not enticing, the agents would have to initiate certain ways to get more women. Again, now that the anus of the fowl has been exposed, their concept of multi-level marketing in pornography may have been jeopardized as well as saving many unsuspecting young girls in Jos of elsewhere. Let it be stated that I don’t care where the girls are coming from, there is reason to be worried for their predicament and the shame that goes with the mention of the act; let alone the humiliation by the description made of their families and what they have done in the video.

By reason of the lucre that came with the deal, should that have swept them into those levels and condescending positions that debase the woman? Should they be condemned by their actions without recourse to what let them? Already condemnations have trailed the act since the release of the videos. It is little wonder they say, when money is in the vision of the mind, it would ultimately result into regret.

Since the release of those clips, I have listened and read a number of commentaries and certain invectives poured on the girls, by virtue of what they saw in the videos. It is instructive to state that there are a number of unanswered questions, such that if they remain so; perhaps we can’t achieve a balance on understanding why the girls went into the deal. We are not sure when the business started, some of us got to know that there were certain video which started to circulate in December 2019.

Several questions have been asked, and it is only right to insist on those questions; perhaps, the reader might come to an understanding of the degree of the problem we have at hand. The girls in question are by no means saint; they easily became victims of their depravity and love for money. They are certainly not professionals, by any means we think about.

The offer to be involved appears less ingenious, and the action far from being attractive. The agent knowing the victims to be anyway near suspecting his motives are easily persuade to get along with him. A prey already on the slaughter slab could have less resistance power. Two things come up to mind: Play along and get paid or resist the deal and be ‘dealt’ within a way she would have wished she wasn’t a woman. It is a catch, between the devil and the deep blue sea.

It does appear the trade has been on for some time now. The agent(s) subterranean misadventures many have claimed the chastity(?) of many unsuspecting young women in the state. The agents would, after all, their dragnet had its tracks covered. Now those tracks have been revealed and its perpetrators are currently held by a ‘grip of revulsion’ by those who yearn for a better society which treats women with respect.

Talking about respect, those who may have watched the video may have observed the strands of the wildness associated with the act. If I were a woman and may have gotten interested in the stipend that goes with my agreement to participate after watching the videos; it is possible to turn down the offer. I am not one, yet I feel the pains and aggression sowed into the act. Whatever you feel, they are someone else’s sister or daughter.

However, this should not be lost in the fact that they got caught between making money and a wild desire for momentous but regrettable piece of fun. Early last year (2019), when it was apparent that fun spots in the state were becoming notorious for luring young unsuspecting girls for fun and selling their flesh; I wrote thus on one Patience Musa: Today, her story is one of regret and a lesson to children and parents, and indeed the security. The lines of the story are in many respects not inspiring to anyone who has heard of it. They give the indication that parents may try their best for their children, yet the choices are left for the children if their focus is not in serving God.

The point of my departure with the mythology of the agent is in using deceit to achieve his goal. We are informed through the videos that they were promised that they clips were not going to be shown in Nigeria, was in the main, deceptive. They bought that hook, line and sinker, since no viewer abroad may decipher their identities. It meant they were ‘safe’ to engage in the act, so long as their sins were covered at home. The agent exposed them right in their backyard.

They thought wrongly, as the agents hid what was going to hit them; and it came hard, for before long, the news of the videos were all over town. Starting from the interviewing session of who they are and are meeting some ‘God-sent-lover’ to the lurid details. I don’t know any of the girls but I am sure they must have felt like being hit by a thunder bolt.

Gradually, the news gained currency, as it became the talk of the town. Tongues wagged, cursed and sympathized with the girls; even as they did not spare the agents. The deed has been one, it can’t be reversed. What needs to be done is to seek for recompense and move on with their lives. For the agents, the security agents are in place to set the records and save others.

The lessons have been hard to take; these are challenges of life, which happen when our naivety and love for fun and experience are allowed to take control of our reasoning. While the initial victims may suffer the repercussions of their actions, they may save some innocent girls the harsh realities of being found in the same beat of misfortune. Experience, they say, is the best teacher.

This piece is coming weeks after it should have been published. We do not in any way reduce its importance by not coming earlier; several other items such as the security of the state took center stage.
