THE Nasarawa State Government has urged the youths of the state to embrace education considering its importance to national development.

The State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Dogo Shammah,  made the call on Thursday at an opening ceremony of  Inter- School challenge (competition) on Quiz and Bee for Secondary Schools in Wamba Local Government Area of the state.

The Nigeria Standard  reports that the school challenge was sponsored by Alhaj Alliyu Dogara, member representing Wamba constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

Dogo commended the lawmaker for sponsoring the competition while urging him to sustain the tempo.

The commissioner, who promised to support the programme in ensuring its sustenance said that the importance of education to societal development could not be overemphasized, hence the need for all hands to be on deck for improved standard of education.

He state that  Nasarawa State Government under the   Governor Abdullahi Sule is committed to improving on the standard of education in the state adding that  this is evident in the ongoing construction of classrooms across the state among other educational projects.

The commissioner therefore  used  this medium to call on the people of the state, especially the youths to embrace education considering its importance to societal development.saying that

As education is key to national development this is because no nation will achieve meaningful development without sound education, “ he said

Dogo then solicited for the prayers and  support of the people of the area to enable Gov. Sule’s administration succeed.

The Speaker of the state legislature, Alhaji IIbrahim Balarabe -Abdullahi,  who chaired the occasion lauded his colleague for sponsoring the competition.

Balarabe- Abdullahi, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Alkali, member representing Lafia North constituency urged the students to take their studies with seriousness in order to excel in life.

Earlier, Alhaji Aliyu Dogara, member representing Wamba constituency at the State House of Assembly, said that the importance of education to the societal development could not be overemphasized, hence the need for the sponsorship.

He said that the competition was also aimed at improving on the standard of education in his constituency and the state st large.

Our man reports that the competition started between An’nur Islamic Secondary School, Wamba and Government Girls College, Wamba where An’nur Islamic  Secondary School, Wamba defeated Government Girls College,Wamba with 30.5 points against 24 points.
