From WILSON BAKO, Lafia
The North-Central Zonal office of the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN) may drag the authority of the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue and the State Broadcasting Service (NBS) to court over false allegation against them.
The thread was contained in a letter signed by Mallam Haruna Idris, North-Central Zonal Director of FRCN and made available to Newsmen last Thursday in Lafia THE NIGERIA STANDARD recalls that Mr . Ahmed Yakubu, Chairman, Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue on Thursday February 7th 2020 at a press conference accused FRCN and one of it’s reporters for reporting that the revenue office was gutted by fire.
The reaction by the FRCN was based on the investigation it carried out as a result of the earlier letter written by the board.
The letter explained that after due investigation, FRCN discovered that the station has never reported that the revenue board was gutted by fire.
It therefore asked the Chairman of the Revenue Board to retract his false allegation and offer apology to FRCN via a press conference within 48 hours or face legal action.
The Zonal Director also wrote the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) to retract the story of the claim by the Chairman of the Revenue Board within 48 hours.
Mallam Idris said that the reporter of NBS who wrote the story on the allegation by the board did not listened to the report aired by FRCN, but claimed to have listened to it by recalling it in his last paragraph.
The letter read,” It is shocking to note that a sister media organization has dropped every sense of responsibility and professionalism by not verifying and investigating an unsubstantiated and baseless accusation by the board before calling FRCN names.
“The said report by our professional reporter, Mr. Chris Nyamtu did not at any point say that the board building was gutted by fire as reported by NBS.
The story said a building in Buka Sidi behind the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service,” the letter read.
The letter also explained that the malicious branding of FRCN as fake news peddlers was a calculated attempt to discredit the FRCN reputation.
It would be recalled hat the Chairman of the board has threatened a legal action against FRCN in a letter he has written to the organization in which he personally signed.
