The President of National Council of Women Society in Nigeria, Mrs Gloria Shoda has appealed to government at all levels to comply strictly with the 35% affirmation policy of according women their rightful place like their male counterparts.
Shoda made the appeal while inaugurating the newly elected Chairman for Kogi Chapter of the Council, Mrs Nancy Aruwa in Lokoja yesterday, following the death of the former president, late Hajia Idachaba.
According to the Woman leader ” Government and the entire citizens across the board should adhere to the gender sensitive rule by ensuring active participation of women in governance and equal opportunities in other human endeavors like their male counterparts ”
The President said that the National Council of Women Society is a nongovernmental or profit making organization but an umbrella body of all women in Nigeria registered in 1959 to carter for the wellbeing of the womenfolk.
Shoda urged Kogi women to continue to live in peace and harmony with their male counterparts as well as embarking on activities that would move the state to the next level.
She also charged the newly sworn-in Kogi women leader and her members to join hands with Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration to succeed in the provision of democracy dividends for the people.
In her goodwill message, the Kogi state commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Buba challenged women across the country to be sensitive in making themselves relevant in politics stressing that they could even aspire to be the president of Nigeria which she affirmed that is very possible in the eye of the Almighty God.
She reiterated the commitment of the APC government in the state to continue to improve on the welfare of the womenfolk.
In her post-election speech, the new president of Kogi Women Council, Mrs Nancy Aruwa lauded Governor Yahaya Bello for appointment of a good number of women in his cabinet during both his first and second tenure.
She solicited for financial assistance from the state government to the women group to boost its activities in the state.
High point of the event was presentation of Merit Awards to Governor Yahaya Bello and his wife, Mrs Rashida Bello for their contributions to the growth of the women association.
