In her modest contribution to the eradication of malaria which has posed as a threat to human lives, wife of the Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Regina Bako Lalong has been decorated as Net Ambassador by the USAID Mission Director, in Nigeria, Mr. Stephen M.Haykin.
The Mission Director who was represented by Mr. Jonathan Korn expressed satisfaction with Mrs. Lalong effort in curbing Malaria prevalence in the state and urged her not to relent in that direction.
Decorating Mrs. Lalong as the Ambassador, Roll Back Malaria at the Jos International Breweries (JIB) premises, Monday, Mr. Haykin called on all and sundry to support the first lady of the state, saying the Federal Government, state as well as partners have contributed a lot to ensure that deaths that occurs as a result of bites from mosquitoes were eradicated.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Lalong said she was overwhelmed by the honor accorded her as the Net Ambassador and promised to put more efforts in ensuring that deaths arising from Mosquito bites were brought to the barest minimum.
Represented by the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Hospitality, Mrs. Tamwakat Weli, the wife of the Governor frowned at the manner people instead of using the net for the purpose it was meant, some use it for other purposes which are detrimental to their health.
According to her, the maternal mortality and morbidity was worrisome and as a mother she assured that she would ensure that the narrative of the old order was changed for the better where all households would be enlighten on the need to always sleep under the treated net distributed free.
She further assured that she would mobilise wives of the 17 local government councils Chairmen to ensure that they key into a similar crusade for the total eradication of the disease.
