The Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has congratulated Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem over her appointment as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal.

In a congratulatory message, released to THE NIGERIA STANDARD by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Makut Simon Macham, Lalong described her appointment as well deserved because of her impeccable record of performance in the Judiciary over her many years of service.

While appreciating Nigeria’s President and the Chief Justice of Nigeria for endorsing her recommendation, in line with Nigeria’s Constitutional Judicial provisions and traditions, Lalong said he has no doubt that Justice Dongban-Mensem would “discharge her new responsibility with the highest decorum, professionalism, diligence and patriotism so as to add value to the second highest court in the land”.

According to him “We in Plateau State are extremely proud of this feat by one of our daughters who has given her best in the service of Nigeria and in the dispensing justice to all manner of people without fear or favour. We have no doubt that she will excel in this huge responsibility and demonstrate the true Plateau spirit of honesty, fairness and fear of God. We shall uphold her in prayers”.

It would be recalled that President Buhari approved the appointment of Justice Dongban-Mensem for an initial period of three months, with effect from March 6, 2020, when the incumbent President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, CFR, would statutorily retire from service.

Justice Dongban-Mensem, who is the next most senior Judge of the Court of Appeal, will be acting pending when a substantive appointment to the position of the President of the Court of Appeal may be made by President Buhari subject to the confirmation of the Senate.

The President’s approval of the appointment of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, followed the recommendation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria in line with the provisions of Section 238(4) & (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
