All roads led to Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on 7th March 2020, as the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong bagged a prestigious award for his efforts on peace.
The award, according to the organisers, The Daily Independent Newspapers was in recognition of the Governor’s peace building initiatives in Plateau State, which has attracted the endorsement of his peers and other stakeholders across Nigeria.
According to the organisers it was easy for the selection committee to spot out the Governor as the overall best on the “Peace and Security” category for the year 2020 annual awards ceremony of the media outfit, because from the onset, he had signaled his intention to prioritize security and peace building in response to the need to curb violent conflicts in the state and restore the peoples hope.
This, the committee said he implemented successfully with initiatives such as the Peace Building Agency, ongoing Community Policing strategies and reformation of the state’s security outfit Operation Rainbow, including the decision to run an all inclusive government among other parameters.
While appreciating the media outfit for the recognition, the Governor Lalong explained that he was voted into office to build confidence among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the state towards ensuring peace and equal opportunities for all citizens.
“This award has inspired me to remain focused on my goal to restore Plateau State’s status as Nigeria’s number one home of “Peace and Tourism”, Lalong said.
Our Correspondent reports that the Governor attended the event in company of his wife, Regina, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Maje, Secretary to the Government of the state, Professor Danladi Atu, Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly Abok Nuhu Ayuba.
Also among the teeming supporters that attended the event were traditional rulers, some heads of government ministries and agencies, Management Committee Chairmen, and other admirers from within and outside the state.
Other award recipients at the event include the Governor of Cross Rivers State, Ben Ayade for Agro Industrial Development, and that of Edo Godwin Obaseki for Economic and Youth Empowerment, while the Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Sir Joseph Ntung Ari was recognised for his effort in training more than 450 youths with skills.
